A delegation from Cyprus, led by House President Demetris Syllouris, conducted a series of meetings with major Chinese technology companies in Shenzhen to explore potential cooperation between these companies and research centers, universities, and investment agencies in Cyprus. The aim was to modernize Cyprus’s economy and advance its digital governance capabilities, with a focus on research-driven production and job creation.

During their visit, the delegation met with executives from Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. They also visited Ping’an, a financial, insurance, and digital services center, as well as the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, a prominent graduate business school in China.

Syllouris expressed the importance of bringing foreign research centers, universities, investment organizations, and businesspeople closer to Cyprus to foster economic growth. He emphasized the potential for cooperation between China and Cyprus, leveraging China’s technological expertise and economic capacity to benefit Cyprus’s resources and universities.

The delegation was impressed by Shenzhen’s technological achievements, particularly the integration of technology into various sectors, including the economy, finance, insurance, smart cities, and healthcare. They expressed their interest in collaborating with China on these issues.

During their visit, Pundi X, a Singapore-based blockchain technology developer, and Borghese Ventures, a Cyprus-based artificial intelligence firm, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the implementation of blockchain technology for both private and public sectors in Cyprus. The MoU aims to establish a committee to evaluate the feasibility of blockchain-related projects that can assist Cypriot businesses and the government. This includes the exploration of blockchain-based payment solutions powered by Pundi X technology.
