The Health Ministry has declared that Cyprus has successfully become a part of the Global Digital Health Certification by the World Health Organization. This achievement is the result of collaborative efforts from the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health, the Department of Information Technology Services of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, the National e-Health Authority, and the University of Cyprus, as outlined in an official press release.

Cyprus now stands as the sixth European country to establish a connection to this network. The World Health Organization’s Global Digital Health Certification Network serves as a digital infrastructure for the verification of health documents across borders. It plays a crucial role in developing digital solutions to bolster pandemic preparedness and improve overall healthcare.

Notably, the network incorporates the technology of the European Digital Certificate for COVID (EUDCC), which was developed by the European Union during the COVID-19 pandemic. The press release, dated December 13, mentions that the network’s future applications could extend to supporting cases like international digital vaccination certificates, cross-border prescription verification, electronic exchange of patient summaries, and certification of healthcare professionals across borders.
